Berg ELTZ castle

Berg ELTZ castle
In Germany, our favourite castle experience is at Burg Eltz.which is nestled in an enchanted forest just above the Mosel River. The Eltz castle is lovingly cared for by the aristocratic family that has called it home for centuries. The noble lady still puts out fresh flowers for her many visitors. Hike in from the train station and the experience gains a kind of magic. After an hour climbing under gentle trees through an ancient forest where you'd expect Friar Tuck and Martin Luther to be hiding out, the castle of your fantasies suddenly appears. This was simply beautiful. After a tranquil long walk through a lovely wooded setting you arrive at the base of the castle, cross a footbridge, and start climbing the narrow stairs. We understand that there is a shorter path to the castle, by way of a road, but opted for the much longer, but so much more rewarding experience. The castle itself was very interesting, with many original furnishings, or period furnishings. Apart from its magical location and appearance, what is truly amazing about this place is the length of ownership by one family. You can see medieval paintings on the wall that were bought NEW, when the owners personally knew the artist. The artist may have been dead for six or seven centuries, but their work still adorns the walls.
